Thoughts and comments on current events, culture and media…
July 22, 2009

Before I leave for Africa this coming weekend, I would like to share some recent developments, which have come to my attention.  I think when you see them all together, it will give you a lot to think and pray about!

As I mentioned on a recent Sunday morning, Russian President Dmitry Medveded recently presented a “test” coin for the world to see as he called for a “united future world currency.”

You can read the article about the new coin here and see pictures and read more about it here.

Meanwhile, the Pope released his opinions on the global economy.  USA Today reports, “Pope Benedict XVI today called for reforming the United Nations and establishing a 'true world political authority' with 'real teeth' to manage the global economy…”

You can read more about the Pope’s thoughts here.

As if things aren’t bad enough in Iraq, the Euphrates River is drying up and causing so much devastation that the New York Times is referring to the book of Revelation to describe the suffering:  “The shrinking of the Euphrates, a river so crucial to the birth of civilization that the Book of Revelation prophesied its drying up as a sign of the end times, has decimated farms along its banks, has left fishermen impoverished and has depleted riverside towns as farmers flee to the cities looking for work.”

You can read this complete story here.

Next, I’d like you to continue to follow the work of Javier Solana, who’s official title is High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.

Mr. Solana, sometimes referred to as “Mr. Europe,” is a very influential man behind the scenes.  Recently he has exerted his influence into Israeli politics.  The Jerusalem News Wire reports, “If Israel and the Palestinian Arabs are not prepared to compromise enough to bring about the creation of the State of Palestine in the Land of Israel, the international community should go ahead and recognize the existence of such a state, thereby making its birth a fait accompli.

This recommendation to forcefully impose the will of the world upon Israel was made Saturday by European Union foreign policy czar Javier Solana.”

You can read more of this story here.

Finally, I’d like you to prayerfully read an urgent message from Pastor David Wilkerson, a man I have respected for a long time and from whom I’ve learned much.  He lived and wrote the classic story The Cross and the Switchblade, which changed so many lives, and now he has a revelation for our time, which I urge you to read HERE.

As we are studying a Living Hope in Troubled times in the book of 1 Peter during our weekend services, we need to grasp that the only source of HOPE in these troubled times is a relationship with Jesus, our true living hope.  It is truly time to focus our eyes and hearts upon the Lord and the soon return of Jesus Christ!
