Georgia Johnson

Georgia is a full-time missionary to Ukraine as of May 31, 2003.  She ministers to a bridging orphanage in Mariupol that is run by an interdenominational church in that city. A bridging orphanage is one that takes orphans and abandoned street children beyond the age that the state-run orphanages typically keep them, usually around 14 or 15.

The Renewal Rehabilitation Center for Children is a Christian organization with a mission to help orphaned and abandoned children in Ukraine.  They have a desire to reach children, who are coming from state-run orphanages, the street, or parents who have lost the right to care for them, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They provide food, shelter, clothing, education, medical/dental care and all other needs to help these children grow into healthy adults and able citizens.

Georgia is a marriage family therapist who focuses on bringing her skills and knowledge to the supervisors and children in this orphanage.  She teaches them how to counsel the children according to God's Word and how to disciple them in the daily Bible studies.  With help from her Impact Team, she manages a prayer-partner network begun in the spring of 2001.  This network connects each of the orphans with a prayer-partner in another country.  There are currently over 60 prayer-partners praying for about 40 children and young adults.   

Photographs of orphans and prayer-partners are exchanged.  These partners are encouraged to send cards, letters, and small gifts to the child they pray for and, of course, pray for them on a regular basis. They are given information on their particular orphan regarding parents, siblings, whether they are Christian and prayer requests. 

This information is updated semi-annually.  Since the beginning of this network, over a dozen children have come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.  This orphanage is excellent for short-term missions.  Georgia will be studying the Russian language in Kiev for this second year and visiting the orphanage whenever feasible.
